The lavish sports center was co-founded by Dmitry Druzhinsky in 2013, after identifying a shortage of recreational infrastructure in the area. As a result of his dedication to club’s members, employees, and the community, the complex has rapidly become the favored venue for families, expert athletes, and cause related charity events. “They are great to work with,” said Darren Port, CEO of Powered by Professionals and one of the runners of this year’s tournament, “He has gone the extra mile to invite us to work with them, and that has helped make the event terrific in the two years we have held it here. The foundation does an excellent job in keeping its expenses minimal to make sure that the funds raised goes towards the cause, and MatchPoint’s kindness helps make that possible.”

Every year, politicians, business and media professionals, celebrities, and sports fans gather to watch the fast-paced wall ball competition. In 2015 local leaders from Brooklyn and the Bronx began smashing the ball to the wall at  MatchPoint NYC in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament. According to Dmitry Druzhinsky, the intra-city rivalry is led by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to get inner-city and under-served youth engaged in physical activity while benefiting the U.S. Wall Ball Association’s education, anti-violence and anti-obesity initiatives.
